All good things must come to an end, and what a way to close off OUR WAY HERE newcomers artists workshop with an amazing evening! We were delighted that everyone had joined us for a very special art exhibition and a community celebrating the journey of newcomer artists in Halifax at @gardenretreathalifax Thank you everyone who joined us! These are some time-capsuled memories from our last OUR WAY HERE workshop. We are still revisiting moments where we got to connect our journeys, learn the honest journey newcomer artists take and how to prepare for it both digitally and in the world. Moments where some of us got to be vulnerable in sharing our stories and moments of courage and belonging we strive to create we got to share its among participants and workshop facilitators. The studio enjoyed drawing for @lululemon at the Spring Garden Road store in Halifax! Keeping in mind the Fall Edition, we incorporated elements like pumpkins and falling maple leaves, keeping the drawing line art with minimal details. More text and promotions are to be added to the top and bottom parts of the board. While it was a new medium to draw in, it was both a challenging and rewarding experience to step out of digital drawing. It was a great pleasure to leave a mark for the month!

From self-taught creators to academically trained artists, they bring perspectives as diverse as their stories, showing how culture, lived experience, and creativity shape their work. The workshop facilitators will explore the core question of what it means to call a place home. Our Way Here: A Shared Journey is a sign-up-required free hands-on art workshop series. Participants are invited to build community through art, reflect on identity and belonging, and celebrate newcomer perspectives. CALL FOR NEWCOMER ARTISTS! Join us for a free, registration-required, and hands-on art workshop series where creativity meets community! Designed especially for newcomers and emerging artists in Halifax, this series invites you to explore identity, belonging, and cultural storytelling through collaborative art. Facilitated by @cest_nahom and co-facilitated by @maca.mnm, @clau.manco, @leenbdesigns, and @annie_basu09 , the workshop series expands beyond structured art-making and storytelling by providing practical information, connections to local resources, and pathways to longer-term engagement in Halifax’s arts community. What a beautiful evening with @sophie_lukacs performing her first show in Halifax! The melodies of the world played by three amazing artists with musical roots from Hungary to Mali, carrying with them the folktale and storytelling, and sharing them with a lovely audience at @driftwood_halifax! We can't thank enough everyone who came along to share this special evening with us, connecting this world little by little and celebrating the beauty in our differences. Big thanks to everyone involved for making this happen including @dawnyjuany from @transculturalproductions for graciously hosting Sophie and her band, Koromanti and The North Star, by attending to their need, a thank you to @cest_nahom for making way to bring Sophie to Halifax, and thank you @arefe_gholipour for the beautiful pictures. Getting lost in the world of Latin American Dances and character design for @latispanica these past few weeks has been one of the most challenging and rewarding experiences I have ever had, and I’m happy how it finally came out! I was used to
Getting lost in the world of Latin American Dances and character design for @latispanica these past few weeks has been one of the most challenging and rewarding experiences I have ever had, and I’m happy how it finally came out! I was used to drawing realistic human characters, but I wanted to shift to a playful, cartoonish style for this project. It took some persistence to bring these animated characters to life without affecting their dance moves. The other part I enjoyed about this project was how I was discovering dance styles I never knew existed and my God there’s so much Latin America has to offer that I barely scratched the surface. While I worked on this project, this fascination led me to have a side quest to learn how to dance salsa and merengue at @haliente.ns. I’ve been a stiff stick my whole life and had no coordination when dancing. I began terribly but ended up getting the basic flow and an obsession plus an understanding of how dancing is an importantoart of Latin culture! All in all, these past few weeks have been fantastic and I’m grateful that @culturedstudio_ca collaborated with @latispanica for the 2025 LatinFax Festival!
