To Connect or Disconnect
Art and poem by Nahom Assefa
To connect or disconnect?
Everything is felt anyway.
To open or to close?
Every choice remains unknown.
To heal or to remain?
The wounds will fade.
To walk or to fly?
Motion defied with height.
To love or to hate?
The flame burns with ache.
To speak or remain silent?
Words sealed for another day.
To sleep or stay awake?
The dream persists as it may.
To ask or to withhold?
A plea for an answer everyday.
It’s all a matter of choice,
To walk into the unknown.
A hero or a coward, both outcasts.
It’s all a matter of sacrifice,
To carry the weight of the world or abandon it, both bear responsibility.
It’s all a matter of risk.
The unknown holds many answers,
Yet those eyes keep them locked away.
At the center, a beat waves that guide,
Toward a path time demands,
And a path that ensures none.
But let the road take you to places anew.
Let those prayers remain,
In hope rather than in vain
